Carter Hart and Alain Vigneault Guide the Flyers Past the Hurricanes

Let's forget about what happened to the Flyers who played dreadful hockey in the first and the second period. Philadelphia’s head coach Alain Vigneault and Carter Hart made miraculous strides to push the Flyers to a 2-1 victory over a very talented Carolina Hurricanes squad on the road.

Vigneault tweaked the Lines Again Against Carolina

Before the lines were changed in the third, the offense was stale. In the first period, the Flyers first line struggled to extend the puck past the defensive zone. Hurricanes winger Steven Lorentz had the puck behind the net where he shifted to the right to pass to defenseman Ethan Bear. Ethan passed it to Steven Lorentz where he quickly made a horizontal pass to defenseman Jacob Slavin to just fumble the puck. Slavin skated out of the zone to pass it back to Steven Lorentz, and the Flyers center misread the play and let Slavin head back into the zone. The Dallas Stars made it difficult for Philadelphia to have an offense because they didn’t let the Flyers execute in the defensive end. Vigneault switched up the lines and boy did they make plays to score in the offensive zone. Philadelphia had a 3 on 2 rush where Travis Konecny made a perfect pass between Carolina’s defensemen's Brendan Smith and Ian Cole to find Joel Farabee for a perfect shot on goal. With Konecny on the third line, it allowed Joel Farabee to become the scorer he was meant to be. The second goal was produced by Philadelphia’s most consistent line of the night, the fourth line with Thompson, Patrick Brown, and Zack MacEwen. In the zone, Patrick Brown miss-handled the puck but passed it to Justin Braun to slap shot the puck towards the net and winger MacEwen got a piece to deflect it past the talented goalie tender Frederik Andersen.

Carter Hart Made Gymnastics Type Saves

How did Hart save the Flyers from winning this game? Carter Hart’s ability to save pucks while defending one on one matchups in the power plays was the objective to winning this game. For instance, the Hurricanes were on the powerplay and Winger Andrei Svechnikov found LW Teuvo Teravainen in the goalie kitchen. Carter Hart read that play and was positioned to save the shot off his glove which bounced off to land in center Vincent Trocheck’s stick on the left side which forced Carter Hart to use his right skate to jump to the other side to save the puck from Carolina’s center Vincent Trocheck. Hart continued to be impressive throughout the third period. The Flyers did have issues in this game but they made adjustments to beat one of the best teams in hockey 2 to 1 Friday night in Carolina.
