Going into last weekend we were so hopeful that our local Philly sports would come through with outstanding performances. We hoped that the Eagles and Phillies would win and create excitement about our teams! It didn't happen. The Phillies, who went to Tampa Bay to face the Rays in a three game series, only needed one win to get into the MLB playoffs. Not only could they not get one win, they dropped 7 of their last 8 games and were eliminated from playoff contention. Aaron Nola, their "Staff ace" underperformed on the last day of the regular season going 3 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on six hits and walked three. That flat out STINKS!!! Zack Wheeler wasn't much better the day before either. Wheeler went 7 innings giving up 4 runs and walking four. This is the ninth year in a row that the Phillies missed the Playoffs.
The Philadelphia Eagles are headed in the same direction. They started the 2020 season 0-2 and needed to right the ship against a 0-2 Cincinnati Bengals team with a win. Eagles QB Carson Wentz, who has struggled this year, needed to have a good game to silence his critics and lead the Eagles to victory. The result was the same as Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler, it wasn't good enough, in fact it was horrible!! Wentz went 29 of 47 for 225 yards with two more interceptions and a QB rating of 62.8. What makes these efforts very disappointing is the fact they are paid millions of dollars to perform at a high level. These guys are our "Superstars" and they get paid the big bucks to preform, win. Last Sunday none of that happened. This week we are left wondering what is going on with our big guns, the guys that Matt Klentak and Howie Roseman invested millions of dollars to win, aren't. There will be many questions asked about the capability of the GM's of each franchise. This is Matt Klentak's fifth season as GM of the Phillies and hasn't made the playoffs yet. Howie Roseman on the other hand is coming off the 2017 Super bowl victory. Its only a matter of time before the critics start second guessing his decisions and start putting pressure on him and his job.
