The Phillies win 5 to 3 for 7 wins in a row! Philadelphia had bad luck all game but turned it around in the 5th and ninth inning to secure a win. How?
How did Philadelphia figure out Tylor Megill and New York’s ninth-inning run?
The Phillies had trouble hitting off Mets starting pitcher Taylor Megill. Taylor’s fastball did not stay in one area of the plate and made it difficult for hitters to swing. That all disappeared in the 5th inning when Odubel Herrera and Brad Miller hit home runs off of Megill. The difference from the previous innings was, Brad Miller, hit a changeup over the fence instead of a fastball. Odubel Herrea struggled with the fastball early in the game but timed it up to tack on 3 more runs in the 5th inning. The Mets had a comeback in the ninth inning when Mauricio Llovera surrendered 3 straight home runs to Micheal Conforto, Jonathan Villar, and James McCann, however newly acquired Ian Kennedy came in to soar past the Mets lineup including 2-time homerun champ Pete Alonso. Even though the Fightins had problems in this game, Philadelphia figured it out and won 7 straight.
