The Philadelphia Phillies were defeated by the New York Mets in the National League Division Series three games to one in the best of five series. The Phillies offense once again couldn’t spark a deep run in the MLB playoffs.
The team’s batting average collectively was .186 while the Phillies' pitching ERA was 5.83 overall in spite of clutch performances by Zack Wheeler and Ranger Suarez. This high-powered offense could only muster three home runs all series and averaged 3 runs per game.
A team with high expectations and the best record in baseball during the first half of the season had nothing left in the tank at the end of the season. This team left Phillies fans heartbroken again and with another offseason of questions.
