The Philadelphia Flyers introduced their new Head Coach on Friday: Former Flyers great Rick Tocchet will take the helm and lead this team into the next phase of the rebuild. The 25th Head Coach in Flyers history spoke to the media at Friday's Press Conference and I asked him about his expectations for the team this year:

"You know, getting the team to play better like my my like every individual has untapped talent right, to whatever level (that) is, it's my job to untap it. - I actually love the direction that (Danny Briere and Keith Jones) have laid out.  I I believe in it and I want to be part of solution.  It's just not me, it's not about Rick Tocchet, it's about everybody. But for me, I know what I got to do to to keep this ball going.  There's a lot of tools here to work with (and) that's what has attracted me, Billy, to to this job."

Toc, who played for the Flyers for 11 years and wore the “C” will reportedly sign a Five year, $25 million contract.  Is Toc the right guy for this team?  We will see if the Flyers brass made the right choice; Tocchet has won three Stanley Cups, one as a player and two as an assistant coach, all with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tocchet is a winner and is respected around the league. He won the Jack Adams Award as the Coach of the Year in 2023-24 with the Vancover Canucks. I like the hire and look forward to watching the rebuilding Flyers under the tutelage of Rick Tocchet.

The Phillies are 2.5 games behind the New York Mets in the National League East after 43 games. The Phillies have gotten superb pitching from newly acquired Jesus Luzardo who is 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA. Conversely, Aaron Nola is off to the worst start of his career: Nola is 1-7 with an ERA 6.16 !

The Phillies welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates to Citizen Bank Park for a weekend series starting Friday night.
