Does it seems like Phillies fans, including me, are too critical?
The Phillies roster is filled with all-star caliber talent. They have the fourth-highest payroll. They have been in the playoffs for the last three years but haven’t won a World Series.
Playing in the shadow of the Eagles Super Bowl win probably hasn’t made anything easier. So why are Phillies fans freaking out? They are 11-8 out of the gate, which is an identical record at this point last year. Baseball is a game of streaks, of hot streaks and slumps.
Are our expectations too high? Since the second half of last year, the Phillies are 44-41 and were eliminated by the New York Mets in last year's NLDS. Several players are slumping to start the 2025 season and this team has not played fundamentally sound baseball consistently.
It’s only April Philly sports fans, we all need to relax, I’m just as guilty as the next guy but I can’t help it. I’m invested in this team, and when things are not going the way they should, we get nervous.
The Flyers and Sixers seasons have come to end. Both teams did not make the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
The Sixers, marred with injury, had one of their worst seasons in recent memory find themselves with a lot of question marks on how to right the ship. The Flyers, with no expectations to win soon, do have a bright future with numerous draft picks this year and appear to be heading in the right direction.
The NFL draft will be held on April 24-26, and the Eagles, who also have plenty of draft capital, will look to fill the holes created from free agency. General Manager Howie Roseman hopefully will continue to work his magic again this draft. We will talk about it all this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim.
On Saturday’s show, Producer Nick Earnshaw and I will cover all the hot topics in Philadelphia Sports. We will recap the Phillies vs Marlins Friday night action before in Hour Two hearing from Mr. Negadelphia P.J. Corda brought to you by the Galloway Pool Service. PJ will share his thoughts on the Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies.
On Sunday’s show, my Locker Room youth movement joins me in studio: Producer Danny Ryan and "The intern” Andrew Leeds join me in the studio. Every Sunday during the baseball season we go “On the Mound” with former Phillies Pitcher Tommy Greene brought to you by Blitz’s Market of Ocean City. Tommy analyzes the Phillies week and previews Sunday’s game. In Hour Two we will hear from Charles Shea. Shea attended Ocean City High School where he wrestled and played soccer and spent his time Surfing, Skateboarding. Charles qualified to run in Monday’s Boston Marathon. We will talk with Charles about what it takes to run 26.2 miles in one of the most prestigious marathons in the country. Then it’s time for our “High School Athletes in the Spotlight” with Fran Mclaughlin brought to you by the Philly Pretzel Factory of EHT.
All that and more in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim, every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to Noon on 97.3 FM ESPN Radio South Jersey.
